THE
Red Thread
Updated June 2026
This policy explains what The Red Thread (“we”, “the app”), operated by Rachel Forbes, collects, why, and your choices. We keep it minimal: we only collect what the app needs to work.
We do not collect your contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers.
To provide your account, sync your ratings and watchlist across your devices, power community and social features (following, the activity board, suggestions, and reviews), keep the catalog and content warnings accurate, send the notifications you’ve turned on, and fix bugs. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
The Red Thread is social, so some of what you do is visible to others:
You control your audience: follow requests need your approval, you can unfollow or remove a follower, you can block someone to stop them interacting with you, and you can delete any review you’ve written.
Your account and content are stored with our hosting provider (Supabase). Push notifications are delivered through Expo and the Apple and Google push services. Account and support emails are sent through Brevo. Catalog and availability data come from third-party sources (Movie of the Night, TVmaze, Wikidata); those services receive catalog identifiers, never your personal data.
You can edit or remove your ratings, reviews, watchlist, tags, votes, reminders, and suggestions at any time in the app, and manage who can follow you (approve, unfollow, remove, or block). You can turn each type of notification on or off in Profile → Notifications. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Profile → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Your sign-in session is stored encrypted on your device, passwords are hashed (we never see them), and access to your data is restricted to your own account. If a data breach ever affects your information, we will notify affected users and the relevant authorities as required by law.
The Red Thread is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Questions or requests? Email support.theredthread@gmail.com (or use the Send Feedback option in the app), and we’ll follow up.
